 Gross gambling yield (GGY) from online gambling in Great Britain rose 21% year-over-year to £1.54 billion (€1.85 billion/$1.92 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was due to a record high number of bets and plays.

 Data from the Great Britain Gambling Commission that came out yesterday (6 February) covers the three months ending December 31, 2024.  It mostly talks about online gambling, but it also talks about GGY and activity in the land-based betting industry.

 The online GGY number for Q4 is higher than the £1.30 billion reported during the same time last year.  It's also 16.7% more than the £1.32 billion it was in the third quarter of last year.

 On top of that, online bets and spins rose 8% year-over-year to a record $25.9 billion.  In Q4, however, the average number of monthly active player accounts went down by 3%.

 Slots GGY makes £709 million
 In Britain, slots are still the main way to get GGY.  Online slots GGY hit £709 million in Q4, which is 15% more than the same time last year.  The total number of spins went up by 9% to 23.9 billion, and the average number of monthly active accounts went up by 10%.

 The information shows records for both the number of spins and online slots GGY.  The Commission did notice, though, that one operator moved some of its goods to the slot vertical category in Q4.  In this way, and just like in Q2, this made it harder to compare to the same time last year.

 The usual length of an online slot session in Q4 was about 18 minutes, which was a little longer than the same time last year.  Session lengths longer than an hour dropped from 7% in Q4 of last year to 6% now.

 Bets on real events go up 38% on GGY.
 In other parts of the online market, real event betting brought in £647 million, making it the next biggest source of GGY during that time.  This is 38% more than the same time last year and the most for a quarter since the second quarter of 2021.

 The Commission said this even though the average number of monthly active accounts was 3% lower year-over-year and the number of bets on real events dropped by 7%.

 GGY for other games, like online casinos that aren't slots, went up 2% to £151.9 million in Q4.  Online poker GGY, on the other hand, dropped 19% to £12.7 million.

 Bets on virtual sports fell 14% to £9.5 million, and bets on e-sports fell 12% to £3.7 million.  The GGY from other internet gambling, the specifics of which were not given, went up 58% to £1.9 million.

 What about LBOs?
 The Commission also shared some details about activities that took place on land in Q4, specifically about licensed betting companies (LBOs).  Even though the total number of bets and spins dropped by 4% to 3.1 billion, LBO GGY went up by 5% to £592 million.

 The gaming machines brought in £279.7 million, the over-the-counter business brought in £159.8 million, and the self-service betting booths brought in £152.6 million.

 Number of machine sessions: 22.8 million, which is 4% less than the same time last year.  There were, however, 6% more events lasting more than an hour, with 621,772 of them.
